Juan Jose Aranguri, 46, a Rockville resident and director of the South American Soccer Academy, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of third-degree sexual offense, Monday, after he reportedly touched one of his students inappropriately on July 9, police said.

A 12-year-old female student at the Soccer Academy, which holds practices on the grounds of the Bretton Woods Recreation Center in Germantown, reported inappropriate contact by her soccer coach after developing leg cramps. Aranguri reportedly began to touch her inappropriately while massaging her legs.

Aranguri has run soccer camps for approximately 10 years and has coached many young people. During that time there have been no other reports of Aranguri inappropriately touching any young players, according to police.

According to the camp's website, Aranguri, also referred to as JJ, is a former professional soccer player. The Soccer Academy offers summer camps geared towards boys and girls, ages 4 to 18 and year-round leagues for players, ages 6 to 7.

Aranguri has also been a coach in the MSI and MCS soccer leagues in Montgomery County in addition to being a coach at the South American Soccer Academy. There are no reports of sexual abuse by him in those leagues either.

Police would like to hear from anyone who has any other knowledge of Aranguri inappropriately coming in contact with a minor.
