POTOMAC – Bullis kept its perfect record intact Friday night with a 43-8 home victory over Avalon.

The Black Knights (2-2) were seeking to avenge a 54-0 loss to Bullis in last year’s meeting but the Bulldogs unleashed a balanced offensive attack led by talented sophomore Devonte Williams who rushed for a game-high 104 yards on 24 carries and scored a touchdown.

“They were a great team,” said Williams, who scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter. “This game has been getting a lot of hype throughout the week and we played well.”

Bullis senior quarterback Danny Copeland completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Nick Fields in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 13-0 lead. Copeland also scored on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Additionally, Bullis got touchdown runs from Brandon Izzo, Yusef Muhammad and Jonathan Dyer.

Avalon recorded its only score in the second quarter when Maryland commit Jacquille Veii took a handoff from Rachid Ibrahim and outran the defense for a 65-yard touchdown. Ibrahim scored on the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 19-8 with 4:17 left in the period.

Bullis (4-0) led 19-0 at halftime and held the Black Knights scoreless in the second half. The Bullis defense was led by senior defensive lineman Peter Angeh and junior linebacker Jindu Chiazor who registered seven tackles apiece. The Bulldogs held Avalon to a net gain of 47 yards rushing.

“It’s a great win,” said Angeh. “Any win is good. We take what we can get. Obviously, Avalon, they’re a pretty good team and we just had to execute tonight and get the job done so that’s what we did so it feels pretty good to get the W.”
