SILVER SPRING-A woman is wanted by police for the armed robbery of a taxi driver that occurred last Thursday in Silver Spring.
Officers say on the evening of September 20 a woman approached a Barwood cab driver and asked to be taken to a Starbucks on East West Highway in Silver Spring. Before arriving at the Starbucks the woman asked to be taken to a Capital One Bank on Georgia Avenue first to obtain money.
When the cab arrived at the bank the woman pulled a knife and demanded the driver’s money and credit cards. The victim complied and was taken at knife point to the ATM. After two failed attempts to withdraw money, the suspect was successful on the third try.
After withdrawing the driver’s money the suspect ran away on foot towards the Silver Spring Metro Station. The suspect also took money the driver earned from working in the cab as well.
The woman is described as black, 20 to 30 years old, with a light complexion. Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect from the photographs or who may have information about these armed robberies or the suspect involved to call the Robbery Section at 240-773-5100.
