ROCKVILLE – City police took a man into custody at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday morning after answering to a domestic disturbance call on the 600 block of Azalea Drive that resulted in a SWAT team being sent to the scene.
Maj. Bob Rappoport said police received a call at 6:18 a.m. from a woman who told police she left her home after she was threatened by a man with a gun. Rappoport said the nature of the relationship between the two individuals is not yet known, but they are not married.
After not being able to initiate contact with the suspect, Rappoport said he requested that the Montgomery County Police Emergency Response Team help at the scene. More than 60 officers, including the SWAT team, then reported to the scene.
“After the team arrived, we were able to establish communications with the subject at the front door,” Rappoport said. “The subject surrendered without incident.”
The suspect was sent to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital for a medical evaluation. Rappoport said no one was injured and no one fired gunshots. Police continue to investigate the scene but have not recovered a weapon. Rappoport said he believes the suspect was carrying a handgun.
