GERMANTOWN – Tuesday’s meeting on the lacrosse field between Northwest and Watkins Mill marked a reunion for Jaguars’ senior attack Simon Michnick and best friend Shane Soghomonian, a senior attack for the Wolverines.

Although Michnick reached a milestone by scoring his 100th career goal against Watkins Mill, Soghomonian was instrumental in the Wolverines’ 8-7 overtime road victory.

The Wolverines overcame a two-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to notch its seventh victory of the season.

“Our kids just didn’t quit,” said Watkins Mill head coach Randy Thompson, “and a little bit of luck and a little bit of God’s grace and the ball found its way in the back of the net before that horn went off.”

Trailing 7-6 in the waning moments of the period, Sergio Mosquera scored at the final buzzer to send the game into overtime. The Wolverines later capitalized when Soghomonian fed junior attack Paul Gianfransesco for the game-winning goal.

Mosquera, a senior midfielder, and Soghomonian each registered a hat trick for the Wolverines.

Meanwhile, Northwest sophomore midfielder/attack Hunter Thompson finished with two goals and registered an assist.

Soghomonian, a senior attack, is just two goals shy of recording his 100th career goal. However, his best friend managed to reach the century mark.

“It was a tough loss,” said Michnick, who scored three goals and registered two assists against Watkins Mill. “I thought our team played well but things didn’t go our way at the very end of the game but I’m happy I hit my goal.”
