BETHESDA – The storied lacrosse rivalry between Georgetown Prep and Landon produced yet another epic battle with a classic ending Saturday at Bordley Stadium when Townsend Brown scored in overtime to give the Little Hoyas a hard-fought 8-7 overtime road victory against their Interstate Athletic Conference counterparts.

“This is our house,” chanted Georgetown Prep students who afterward stormed William H. Triplett Field to celebrate and congratulate their classmates.

The game-winning sequence was set up by Georgetown Prep defenseman Matthew Billings who scooped up a loose ball and passed to attackman Colin Giblin who then found Brown.

“It means everything,” said Brown, a Virginia recruit who scored a pair of goals. “They’re our rival and it’s just an awesome win. It feels amazing. I thought for a second we wouldn’t have it, but our defense just was amazing.”

The game featured a dramatic ending to regulation when Georgetown Prep midfielder Brendan Collins (3 goals, 1 assist) scored with 59 seconds remaining in the fourth period to give the Little Hoyas a 7-6 advantage.

Moments later, however, Landon’s Robert Dunigan scored with 12 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

However, Georgetown Prep responded early in the extra session to claim the win against their archrival.

“ [Nos.] 4 [Colin Giblin] 5 [Charles Horning] and 17 [Townsend Brown] make us go,” said Georgetown Prep head coach Kevin Giblin, “and they didn’t do much in that first half so I called them out at halftime a little bit and I’m happy that they responded. I’m really happy for the team and all the kids. It’s a big win.”
