GERMANTOWN – Seneca Valley junior quarterback Calvin Reighard passed for two touchdowns Friday night to propel the Screaming Eagles to a 12-9 victory over Quince Orchard in a battle of unbeatens.

The game featured a goal line stand by the Seneca Valley defense late in the fourth quarter when Screaming Eagles senior cornerback Trevon Thacker stopped Quince Orchard quarterback Matt Choi short of the first down.

“Trevon Thacker came up with probably the play of the game,” Seneca Valley head coach Fred Kim said afterward.

The Seneca Valley defense also got standout performances from Austen Herbert, Daniel Appouh, Anthony Bell, Eddie Swope, Tyler Lee, Timmy Walko and Jeffrey Lima.

The win marked the Germantown school’s first win over Quince Orchard (4-1) during Kim’s tenure as head coach.

After a scoreless first half, Reighard guided Seneca Valley (5-0) on a pair of scoring drives that ended in Screaming Eagle touchdowns.

In the third quarter, the junior connected with senior James Jones-Williams on a 36-yard score that gave the Screaming Eagles a 6-0 lead with 6:54 remaining.

Quince Orchard responded in the fourth quarter when Choi connected with D’Andre Johnson from 35 yards out. Jake Barkdoll’s extra point gave the Cougars a 7-6 advantage with 6:22 left.

On the ensuing possession, Reighard drove Seneca Valley downfield and connected with wide receiver Kevin “Twos” Joppy from 13 yards out with 4:22 remaining. However, the two-point conversion attempt failed but the Screaming Eagles held a 12-7 lead.

Seneca Valley, pinned deep in its own territory late in the fourth quarter, gave up two-points when Reighard kneeled in the end zone with two seconds left to help preserve the win.

“We’ve made the playoffs but we just haven’t been able to get over the hump,” said Kim. “We haven’t beaten them the last five times we played them, this is big for us. This was huge for our program.”
