POTOMAC – Although leading scorer Logan Samuels was held to nine points, freshman Grant Robinson scored a team-high 19 points Friday to lead Potomac School to a 50-47 road victory over St. Andrews’s Episcopal School in a clash between Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference rivals.
Meanwhile, St. Andrew’s was led by the dynamic backcourt duo of sophomore Marcus Adkison (19 points) and junior Cedrick McFadden (12 points).
Adkison and McFadden have rejuvenated the St. Andrew’s basketball program after playing at different schools last season.
“They’re good players,” said St. Andrew’s head coach Kevin Jones. “They help us out a lot and they had good games.”
During the summer, Adkison transferred to St. Andrew’s from Washington Catholic Athletic Conference powerhouse Paul VI while McFadden joined the program after spending last season at D.C. public school Wilson.
“Obviously, we’re happy to have them,” added Jones. “They bring great effort every night.”
St. Andrew’s rallied from a five point halftime deficit against Potomac School and cut the deficit to 46-43 on Adkison’s driving layup with 37 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
Robinson’s free throw gave the Panthers a 47-43 advantage before Adkison stole the inbounds pass and scored to cut the deficit to 47-45 with only 11.6 seconds left.
Potomac converted three free throws in the final ten seconds and Samuels blocked Adkison’s shot just before the final buzzer to stave off the St. Andrew’s rally.
“It could have went either way,” said Jones, “but they’re a good team. They’re well-coached and it didn’t bounce our way tonight.”
