GAITHERSBURG - One of the oldest historic homes in the Washington Grove community of the county went up in flames early Tuesday morning.
Montgomery County firefighters were called to the 200 block of 2nd Avenue just after 6:30 a.m. for a reported house on fire.
According to Scott Graham, Assistant Fire Chief for Montgomery County Fire Department, units arrive on the scene with heavy fire conditions coming from both floors of the two-story house that dates back to 1875.
It took firefighters from 45 minutes to an hour to bring the fire under control,. At the time of the fire the home owner was away.
Due to the closeness of other houses, one adjacent building suffered some damaged.
Three firefighters were injured battling the fire; they were taken to a local hospital suffering minor injuries,
Washington Grove dates back to the 1870's when it was a Methodist summer camp with tents. Over the years homeowners stayed and built on the camp land. Fire Investigators said due to extensive damage to the house they might never know the fire’s.
