MONTGOMERY COUNTY - Maryland State Senator Brian Frosh is considering a run for Maryland attorney general.

Frosh said he is still exploring the idea of entering the race but finds the opportunity to become attorney general very appealing.

“Doug Gansler, the incumbent, may be running for governor, and that will likely leave a vacancy and, honestly, it’s a terrific job. You have the opportunity to accomplish a great deal for the people of Maryland,” Frosh said. “The possibilities thrill me to represent the people of the state on that level.”

Frosh said he has traveled all over Maryland, meeting with political leaders, community leaders and citizens, and he said he has gotten very encouraging feedback. He has already garnered support from past and current public officials such as Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, former Governor Parris Glendening and Maryland State Senator Lisa Gladden.

Frosh said he loves what he does in the Senate, but the possible rewards of becoming attorney general are worth the risk.

“Looking back on my years at the state legislature, I am very satisfied with what I was able to accomplish and what I participated in with the many committees I’ve sat on. I got to do a lot of great work for residents in my district,” Frosh said. “I’m very proud of my record. If it weren’t for this opportunity, I’d want to continue.”

While Frosh has admired the position for some time, he said he does not consider it to be a step to bigger things in the future.

“This is a position where you can accomplish so much good. An attorney general helps protect the people of Maryland and, in some cases, recoup millions of dollars for residents and the state. It’s always been a position I thought would be wonderful if I could get it, but this is not a stepping stone for me,” Frosh said.

Frosh was elected to the House of Delegates in 1986member from 1987-1995 (http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/05sen/html/msa12167.html) and to the state senate in 1994member since 1995 (http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/05sen/html/msa12167.html). He earned a law degree from Columbia University in 1971 and in a private practice since 1976(http://www.brianfrosh.com/full-biography/). He is entering his 19th session with the state legislature representing District 16.
