Head Coach: Andrew Fields
Last year’s record: 2-8
Returning Offensive starters: 7
Returning defensive starters: 7
Likely toughest opponent: “All of them. We’re Blair”
Offensive strengths: QB
Offensive weaknesses: new system
Defensive strengths: Speed
Defensive weaknesses: Linebackers
Offensive outlook: “I think we can we get away on offense and start to challenge in the 4a playoffs at the end of the season and get over that hump. The hump has been 2-3 wins for the last three years,” Fields said. He says his best players are Derek Comberbatch, Raymond Bertnick, Michael Williams and Darryl Blue. The team is a multiple offense.
Defensive outlook: the team will be playing a 4-3 defense and has several returning players, including DJ Henderson.
Special teams: Fields says the kicking game is the special team’s strengths.
Coach’s comments: “There is no substitute for work. I think it’s going to be a new attitude and the outlook from the players and the community is very optimistic. Hopefully we’ll be able to get to our goals to be hot at the end of season.”
Scouting report: Last year the team was 2-8 but Fields says the team is building a foundation on goals and discipline and is moving to get past its hump of 2-3 wins a season. The hump is high but possible.
Breakaway potential: Well, better than in years past, but that places Blair just above the “Not a Chance” category.
Fields says the goal is to make the playoffs. The team is in the 2a/3a league with 2007 3a champions Damascus and former champions Northwest and Seneca Valley.
Fields is a very capable coach and Blair has a large school population. If they defeat Kennedy in the first game, they might break .500
