Racism in Olney and elsewhere

Bigotry as defined by Webster’s dictionary is a state of mind and acts or beliefs coming from such a state.

A bigot was a name given to the Normans in France due to obstinately   or intolerant devotion to his own church, party, beliefs or opinions.

The definition applies today. The obscenities demonstrated by the recent painting of swastikas and other offensive signs on the Olney synagogue reflects on the community. The recent article in the Sentinel hardly penetrates the surface of what extremist s in the United States will resort to.

In a letter to the editor, a subscriber stated he didn’t understand what bigotry had to do with the recession. A major contribution of a depressed economy is increased attacks on the part of minorities who are unemployed and suffering   ,subjecting   aggression on others needlessly. This was the background for the rise of Hitler and the subsequent   Holocaust.  In the United States, Father Coughlin from Michigan continued his diatribe against Jews until World War II. I have memories of the Americans who sided with the Nazi regime and accepted rewards from Hitler.

Harry Truman was the first to recognize the State of Israel and subsequent alliance with the only democratic state in the Middle East.

The comments of Helen Thomas and Mel Gibson exemplify the definition of a bigot as described by Webster.

These individuals are revered, so people copy-cat them.

The current tragedy serves its purpose. We must continually be vigilant and expose the organization of people who threaten our civil liberties, regardless of faith, color or creed.

Such action is the moral obligation of every citizen and American.

Title: Your title is offensive to the REAL PEOPLE of Olney, MD

A few small minded, uneducated, unmannered people used a place of worship to publicly announce their feelings. This is a crime in itself. Not only is defacing public property illegal- but the small minds that elicited such behavior are a sad reflection of an incrimental amount of people who call Olney home. Olney is a pocket community where people grow strong roots and raise happy families. It's sad to see that someone in this community couldn't take advantage of the many wonderful things that Olney has to offer- one of which is growing in a neighborhood of diversity- instead of blaming people who they probably don't even associate with or befriend. Little minds do not deserve such a large headline. It should have read "Olney has been hit by the mental midgets", not by the title you chose.

Title: A more complete view

We must continually be vigilant and expose the organization of people who threaten our civil liberties, regarless of faith, color or creed. How true. And so we must stand up to minorities who promote the crime of race baiting. And we must stand against those who promote quota crime. We must stand against those who promote the needs of one (or more) races, over the needs of the entire country. We must stand against those who promote illegal immigration and use racial slurs against their critics. Such action is the moral obligation of every citizen and American.

Title: Genocide

What you're seeing in Olney is not true racism. It's some kids who need to have the crap slapped out of them, fined and made to clean up their mess and do a months work of community cleanup. Then take them to the Holocaust Musem in D.C. and have them watch films on just what did happen. Maybe then they'll get the picture and the horrible message of genocide.

Title: Is it any Wonder

With the racist president and race baiter democrats I am not the least bit surprised. They have single handely set race relations back 150 years. Hurry elections.

Title: So pathetic

Who are these cowards that mark our buildings, ruin our neighborhoods? You don't have to be Jewish to feel bad for the people of the synagogue. It truly is not only sad, weak but pathetic of those people, the bigots.
