CLARKSBURG-Police are investigating the death of a man following a police encounter involving pepper spray.
October 8 police were called to Tailor Shop Place in Clarksburg for a violent resident who was also behaving erratically at a group home. When officers arrived they were told a man, identified as Nathan Jones, had threatened two of his roommates with a knife and a hammer.
Officers attempted to arrest Jones after they discovered he assaulted someone. Police say Jones became violent and attempted to resist arrest. Police officers then used pepper spray to subdue Jones.
Fire and rescue were called to treat Jones for exposure to the spray. Later police say Jones began losing consciousness and began asking for help. Fire and rescue were called again and took Jones to Shady Grove Adventist where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division are conducting an investigation of the death.
