Georgetown Prep’s Hanley Center will play host to some of the nation’s top high school basketball talent this weekend.
The 2013 National High School Invitational features eight teams ranked in the ESPN 25 Power Rankings including top-ranked Findlay Prep, the reigning tournament champion.
The Pilots (34-0) will tip-off at 6 p.m. on Thursday against Montrose Christian in a re-match of a game played earlier this season. Findlay Prep defeated Montrose Christian, 40-35, at a tournament in Hawaii back in December.
“It was a very competitive game,” recalled Montrose Christian head coach Stu Vetter. “They’re extremely talented. They probably have ten Division I players on their team.”
Findlay Prep boasts Division I recruits in McDonald’s and Jordan Brand All-American Nigel Williams-Goss (Washington), Stanford Robinson (Indiana), Allerik Freeman (UCLA) and Gavin Schilling (Michigan State).
Meanwhile, Montrose Christian boasts Baylor recruit Ishmail Wainright along with uncommitted senior prospects Mark Williams and Charles Tucker and talented junior forward Therence Mayimba who has drawn interest from Indiana among other schools according to Vetter.
“He really had a good second half of the year,” said Vetter.
Findlay Prep will be seeking to capture the school’s fourth NHSI title in the five-year history of the event. Montrose Christian won the tournament title in 2011.
“We can’t have any mental lapses,” said Robinson, “because they’ll capitalize on your mistakes.”
Robinson, a Prince George’s County native, transferred to Findlay Prep last summer after spending his first three years of high school at Paul VI in Fairfax, Va. where he helped lead the Panthers to both a WCAC championship and City Title last season.
The game will mark a reunion for Robinson and Wainright who played together in the Team Takeover AAU program.
“We don’t really trash talk too much,” said Robinson, “but we save everything for on the court.”
