Shortly after 10:30 this morning, Montgomery County Fire Department units responded to Forest Oak Middle School in the 600 block of Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard in Gaithersburg for a fire in the building.
"When firefighters arrived on the scene they reported heavy smoke on the top floor on the two-story school building," fire department spokesperson Pete Piringer said. "After further investigation they located a fire in a bathroom on the second floor."
Piringer said fire crews quickly extinguished the fire.
"The school had been evacuated and we have called in school buses to shelter the students and staff members," Piringer said.
Piringer said three students suffered minor injuries as they were being evacuated from the school.
"Our EMS units are treating the students, but on other injuries were reported," he said. "Our fire investigators have been called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire."
