A man died after being struck by a Metro Green Line train Wednesday after 5 a.m.
Metro Transit Police did not identify the man who died between Naylor Road and Suitland stations.
The medical examiner arrived on scene around 8 a.m.
Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel said police are investigating why he was on the tracks.
Stessel said the man, who he described as a “pedestrian,” should not have been on the tracks as there are no crosswalks on Metrorail.
Metro officials said Naylor Road, Suitland and Branch Avenue Metro stations will be closed for several hours.
Riders should expect delays in both directions because Metro is spacing trains by more minutes than usual.
Metro officials said trains are not serving Naylor Road, Suitland or Branch Avenue station; trains will only travel from Southern Avenue to Greenbelt as of at least 6:30 a.m.Riders will need to take Shuttle buses to travel from Naylor Road to Southern Avenue Metro station and vice versa.
