Metro begins weekend shutdown of Red Line segment in May

metro logoMetro’s Red Line is bringing back weekend shutdowns.

Buses will replace trains starting the weekend of May 12 between Red Line stations Van Ness and Dupont Circle stations, shutting down the Cleveland Park and Woodley Park stations, and continue for the next two weekends to allow for track work. Trains will operate every 10 minutes up until 9 p.m., when they will operate every 15 minutes.

Metro will operate shuttle buses between Van Ness and Dupont Circle stations and continue the shutdown for the following weekends:

  • May 12-13
  • May 19-20
  • May 26-27

Trains will operate in two segments every 10 minutes: between Shady Grove and Van Ness stations and between Dupont Circle and Glenmont stations from opening until 9 p.m. Then trains will operate every 15 minutes.

Metro officials advise riders to allow 10 minutes for each stop on the shuttle bus. The buses will stop at Cleveland Park Station, the National Zoo entrance and Woodley Park Station.

Metro officials instruct riders to tap their SmarTrip cards at the faregates each time they enter and exit Metrorail stations. Metro will charge riders traveling past the work zone for one continuous trip.

The work includes repairing and replacing rails and rail fasteners, eliminating joints in rails and performing track maintenance.
