GAITHERSBURG -- The Seneca Valley Eagles varsity boys’ basketball team (12-1) squeaked by the Quince Orchard Cougars varsity boys’ basketball team (13-1) , 65-60, on Jan. 20, a hotly contested match of two of the most highly touted teams in Montgomery County decided by defensive stops and free-throw shooting.

“Well, defense is what we do best” is how Eagles head coach Brian Humphrey summed up his team effort.

GERMANTOWN – “Scoreboard” chants rained down from the bleachers Friday at the David A. Young gymnasium as the final minutes ticked away in the Battle of Germantown basketball.

The 7-1 Seneca Valley varsity boys basketball team hosted Northwest (2-8) in the first game back since winter break. A packed crowd was on hand to witness the Screaming Eagles throttle Northwest, 81- 49.

The lopsided score prompted the Seneca Valley student section to call Northwest’s attention to the scoreboard when it became evident that the Jaguars wouldn’t be able to mount a comeback.

“They made us play their game, and when you play their game, they’re going to beat you,” said Northwest Head Coach Rob Smith. “They wanted it more than we did.”
