Kathleen Matthews vows to knock on 10,000 doors to help local Democrats

PHOTO BY TOSIN FAKILE  Maryland Democrats have internalized the harsh lessons of the 2014 and 2016 elections which left Larry Hogan in the governor’s mansion and Donald Trump in the White House, Maryland Democratic Party Chairwoman Matthews said, and they’re doing the hard work that is needed to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.

“We need to get back to basics,” Matthews said during an exclusive interview at The Sentinel’s Rockville offices. “We need to start listening to people. People felt like they had been ignored and that Democrats took their votes for granted.”

County executive candidates square off

POTOMAC – Saturday’s candidate forum was one of the first opportunities for the four men filed to run for County Executive to take the stage together and speak to the public directly.

On Saturday, the Montgomery County Muslim Council hosted a forum at the Potomac Community Center for the four people who filed to run for County Executive candidates and current County Council member Roger Berliner (D-1) Marc Elrich (D- at large), George Leventhal (D- at large), and attorney and former member of the Maryland House of Delegates Robin Ficker.

The candidates answered questions about diversity, profiling, schools and taxes.

Fight for District 8 is on

 

The most important ingredient to a democracy is the people's right to vote. To exercise that right most effectively requires an informed electorate. On Tuesday, November 17th, I attended a forum of candidates that was designed to provide just such an opportunity for voters. The Women's Democratic Club of Montgomery County (WDC), in conjunction with the Montgomery County Democrats, hosted a forum of the seven Democratic candidates seeking to fill the 8th District Congressional seat that will soon be vacated by Congressman Chris Van Hollen as he seeks to win the Senate seat of retiring Senator Barbara Mikulski.
