Unfortunately, even that small victory was not to be; The Spirit lost to The Reign at Maureen Hendricks Field, 3-2.

After England’s national women’s team defeated the US Women’s National team last weekend, the first time ever that England has defeated the US team on their home field, one would not have thought that France would do the same on Tuesday, March 7.

The Women’s National Team from France, coached by Olivier Echouafni, doused the US Women’s team 3-0. By the 11th minute, France was up 2 to nil. The steady rain on the field seemed to wash away the indomitable strength of the US Women’s backline. France owned the pitch.

The Washington Spirit is unbeaten in Boyds this season but they have not carried that same success while on the road.

On the road, their play is inconsistent and wins are fleeting and draws are common, though losses have been limited to a single match.

The Friday match against the Boston Breakers ended in a 1-1 draw, earning both teams a single point in the National Women’s Soccer League standings.

Brandi Chastain, the woman who ripped off her jersey showing off her joy and sports bra to the world after scoring the winning goal for the US women’s team in 1999 Women’s World Cup announced last week she will be donating her brain to science when she dies. She is donating it to Boston University. Her belief is scientists and neurologists at Boston University who study Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) may find in her brain a way to see how CTE develops in a brain of someone who has played soccer most of her life.

Spirit vs Breakers 111The favorite number of the night for the Washington Spirit vs. Boston Breakers game was the number one. Each team scored one goal in the game, which resulted in a tie. A tied final score earns both teams one point in the National Women's Soccer League standings. At the end of last week, the one point earned on Saturday against Boston put the Washington Spirit one point out of the number-one spot in the league standings. Whom do the Spirit play next? The number-one team in the league, the Chicago Red Stars. Ones all around for everyone.
