In a battle of top Montgomery County public school football programs, the Quince Orchard Cougars defeated the Paint Branch Panthers Friday night at the Cougar Dome, 45-8.

“They’re a good football team and I think our kids wanted to come out and prove that we’re a good football team, too,” said Quince Orchard head coach John Kelley.

Wise is too much for Quince Orchard in 4A title game, 42-7

The Cougars couldn’t score more than seven points Friday when they clashed with Wise from Prince George’s County in the 4A state championship game at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

The defending state champion Pumas rolled to their third title in five years, 42-7.

QO clubs Annapolis 42-14, faces Wise in state finals

GAITHERSBURG – Quince Orchard junior quarterback Doc Bonner held back tears Friday night after his 12-1 Cougars defeated Annapolis 42-14 in the 4A state semifinals game Friday at the Cougar Dome. 

The victory sends Quince Orchard to its first state championship game in four years. Bonner and his teammates will make their first career title game appearance against undefeated Wise from Prince George’s County. 

“It’s an exciting moment for us and I love it,” said Bonner. “We came out here focused and ready to play and obviously it showed on the field.”

QO secures playoff berth with 59-20 drubbing of Whitman

BETHESDA – The Quince Orchard varsity football team clinched a playoff spot for the 13th year in a row Friday as the Cougars crushed host Whitman 59-20 for their eighth consecutive victory.

“I thought we played really well on offense. The offense looked really good,” said QO Head Coach John Kelley.?That offense appeared both versatile and elusive most of the evening, led by quarterback Kendall ‘Doc’ Bonner’s five touchdowns: three in the air and two on the ground.

QO holds off late comeback against Northwest, 24-21

GERMANTOWN – Holding on to a 17-point lead at halftime, the Quince Orchard (6-1) football team had to stave off a late comeback push from host Northwest (4-3) to win 24-21 Friday night.

Quince Orchard quarterback Doc Bonner’s three touchdowns, including two in the air and one of the ground, helped lead the Cougars to their sixth straight victory of the season against the 2013 and 2014 4A state champion.

“Honestly, they are a very good football team, they’re not just going to come out and lay down,” said Quince Orchard Head Coach John Kelley. “That’s why I told our guys, ‘It’s not going to happen,’ you know, so they fought back like I knew they would. They’re a great team and, you know, we were able to withstand them.”

Beander rushes for two TDs as Q.O. beats Clarksburg 21-7

CLARKSBURG – Quince Orchard senior running back Marvin Beander scored two rushing touchdowns Friday, leading the Cougars to a 21-7 road victory against host Clarksburg.

Beander punched in his first touchdown on a one-yard run 30 seconds before halftime and added his second score on a 14-yard rush shortly after the start of the fourth quarter.
