Rockville man charged with murder of his married girlfriend

A local man is in jail without bail after authorities charged him with killing a married co-worker.

Prosecutors Saturday charged Elmer Marilan Campos-Martinez, 47, of Rockville with second degree murder. He apparently had an ongoing affair Dania Suyapa Mendez de Guerra, 21, of Wheaton. Campos-Martinez worked with de Guerra at the KFC restaurant on University Boulevard in Wheaton.

On Monday, a Rockville District Court judge denied bail to Campos-Martinez after learning a final removal order has been issued against him by U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement.

"The defendant presents a clear danger to the community and is a flight risk," Judge Margaret Schweitzer said in Rockville District Court Monday. "He has nothing to lose. It is appropriate for him to be held without bail."

Montgomery County Police arrested five suspects for allegedly robbing a Wheaton check-cashing store at gunpoint while the sixth suspect was killed fleeing police after a pursuit across county lines Friday.

Miguel A. Ayala-Rivera, 23, Marcio Avila-Castro, 21, Edwin Geovanny Zelaya-Ramirez,17, Yeruin J. Romero-Rivera, 21, and Juan R. Ramirez-Delgado, 34, were arrested and charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and the use of a firearm during the commission of a violent felony, a Nov. 4 police press release stated.

At approximately 12:35 p.m. on Friday, police officers from the 4th District Police Station responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Check Cash Depot store at 11246 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton.

Local man charged with killing 72-year-old woman

WHEATON – A 72-year-old woman described as a friendly neighbor who was active in her Silver Spring church is dead after police say someone murdered her last week in her home along the 2700 block of Arcola Avenue.

Montgomery County Police found Linda Johnson dead Aug. 3. Police arrested Kwasi Sadler Aug. 9, charging the 23-year-old with first-degree murder.

Montgomery County Police detectives have arrested and charged 24-year-old Enrique Carbajal and 19-year-old Victor Tome with the kidnapping and rape of a 12-year-old girl in Wheaton.

Potomac flies past Wheaton in 3A South finals

 OXON HILL – The Wheaton Knights remembered they were playing in the 3A South regional finals in the final minute of the game against the Potomac Wolverines.

The Knights scored two touchdowns in 30 seconds, more points than they’d scored in the previous 47 minutes of play. It was too little too late. The Wolverines put the game on ice in the third quarter, eventually winning by a score of 50-24.
