You Reach and I Teach comes to Churchill H.S.

Two Montgomery County residents are joining forces this month to teach youngsters the fundamentals of basketball.
Germantown’s Joel Barkers and Mamadi Diane of Potomac are teaming up for the “You Reach I Teach” boys and girls basketball camp at Churchill High School.
“I think it’s a great way to stay connected to the area,” said Diane, a 2005 DeMatha graduate who played collegiately at the University of Virginia before embarking on a professional career overseas.
Barkers, who played professional basketball overseas for five years, said he and his staff will be “actually trying to teach the kids the right way how to play basketball.”

Diggins sets up camp in Montgomery

ROCKVILLE – Skylar Diggins made a pit stop in Montgomery County over the weekend when the WNBA star teamed up with local trainer Pat the Roc for her “Shoot 4 the Sky” basketball camp tour.

On Saturday, the Dallas Wings guard conducted her nationwide tour at the Pat the Roc Basketball Skills Academy with a large audience in attendance.

During the four-hour session, Diggins, along with Pat the Roc and Randy “White Chocolate” Gill among others, taught basketball fundamentals to young campers.

“This is one of my all-time favorite camps for sure,” said Diggins, a 26-year-old native of South Bend, Indiana.

Juan Dixon returns to Maryland and helps others reach for their dreams

 

BOYDS – Juan Dixon enjoyed a memorable basketball career at the University of Maryland, where he guided the Terrapins to their first and only NCAA championship in 2002.

The men’s basketball program’s all-time leading scorer recently reflected on his experience playing four years at Maryland.

“It was a great experience,” Dixon recalled earlier this month during his basketball camp at the Discovery Sports Center.
