Propaganda is not news

Bundesarchiv Bild 102 17049 Joseph Goebbels sprichtThe definition of propaganda is “information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.” Propaganda is not news. It is spin. Propaganda is what viewers of cable's Fox News ordinarily receive. Fox News is a propaganda outlet for the simple reason that it is very selective in what issues it covers and how it chooses to cover those issues almost entirely focused doing so in a manner that places its own political cause or point of view in a positive light without any regard to the other side's argument or position.
To say that Fox News is the personal political media outlet of one Donald J. Trump is an understatement. Michelle Obama going sleeveless: inappropriate. Melania going clothes-less: no big deal. President Obama playing golf: why isn't he doing his job? Trump weekly golf outings: he needs his time off.
All this said, the fact of the matter is people in this country have the right to listen to Fox News as much as they want. Their choice. When they tune into Sean Hannity they have every right to buy his hypocrisy and inconsistency and absurd spin to whatever extent they choose. This is the relatively new world of cable news. However, this is NOT supposed to be the way it is with regard to local network news over the airwaves.

It was the end of the first act of this frenetic presidency while the second act in the psychodrama began with Prosecutor Robert Mueller opening a second grand jury into the Russia/Trump “Witch Hunt” and issuing the first of what may be many subpoenas.

Sputnik logoIt’s not Tokyo Rose, but a news agency funded by the Russian government is coming soon to a radio station near you.

Sputnik, a Russian news agency funded by the Russian government, will soon begin radio broadcasting at 105.5 FM on the radio dial in the D.C. market. The news agency said in a press release that it will broadcast its talk shows, news programs and financial analysis shows 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Andrew Feinberg, a former White House correspondent for Sputnik, said his former employer is a propaganda outlet, and that the programs that they broadcast over the radio will be exclusively opinion without news. Feinberg left Sputnik in May, saying the outlet did not let him report independently.

“The casual channel-surfer, dial-twister, is not necessarily going to know that this is propaganda funded by a foreign government,” Feinberg said.
