ROCKVILLE – The Sherwood High School baseball team earned 17-3 mercy-rule victory against Magruder on Saturday as the teams combined for 16 errors in five innings.

Magruder committed 12 errors in the game, while Sherwood committed four. Magruder led 2-1 after the first inning, but the repeated mistakes in the field allowed Sherwood to explode for eight runs in the second inning and then score another eight runs in the fourth inning. In total, 11 Sherwood players scored a run.

Senior centerfielder Brady Adam led the way for Sherwood from the leadoff position in the lineup as he went 2-3 with a triple, three runs scored and two runs batted in. Adam also made plays in the field including a strong throw to home to nail a Magruder baserunner attempting to score.

“(Brady Adam) is a complete baseball player,” said Sherwood head coach Sean Davis. “He is a wonderful defensive player, and he is really starting to heat up at the plate. He is running the bases, he’s fast. He has got a lot of tools. It is nice having him at the top of our lineup and in the middle of out outfield.”

Senior shortstop Michael Zerafa went 2-4 with four RBIs and two run scored. On the mound senior right-hander pitcher Patrick Kemper notched the victory after pitching three innings and allowing two unearned runs. He struck out three hitters, allowed one hit and walked four.

While there were many positives for the Sherwood team in the victory and the team has been playing well, Davis said the team needs to polish its defense up after committing four errors.

“We want to get better every day, and we want to be playing our best baseball in May,” Davis said.
