Margaret Virginia Fleming 94, of Taneytown

Died Monday, January 3, 2011 at Country Companions Assisted Living in Taneytown.

Born of September 12, 1916 in Johnsville, she was the daughter of the late Birnie and Carrie Brown Harman. She was the wife of the late William?J. Fleming.

She graduated from Westminster High School in 1933 and received the Rotary Medal. She attended Columbia University in the summer of 1946, University of Maryland for evening and summer classes in 1956-1962, and Western Maryland College summer school sessions from 1944-1948 where she received a Master of Education Degree in 1948. In college she belonged to the BBB - Alpha Mu Chapter and the Argonauts. After college she belonged to Phi Delta Gamma - Psi Chapter where she served as treasurer for 8 years. From 1972 to present she belonged to the National Retired Teachers Assoc, Maryland Retired Teachers Assoc, the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Assoc and was a life member of the Maryland Congress PTA. She taught Science and/or Mathematics from 1937-1938 at Allegheny High School in Cumberland, 1940-1941at Snow Hill High School in Snow Hill and Washington High School in Princess Anne, 1941-1946 at New Windsor High School in New Windsor, 1946-1952 at Indian Head High School in Indian Head, 1952-1956 at Northern Garrett Jr-Sr. High School, and 1956-1972 at Kensington Jr. High School in Kensington. She retired on July 1, 1972. Between 1938 and 1940 she worked at Sauble’s Inn in Taneytown and J.C. Penny’s in Westminster.

Surviving her is a daughter Virginia Fair of Taneytown, granddaughter and husband Marti Virginia and Steven L. Hobson of Taneytown, grandson and wife Benjamin James and Sarah Fair of Westminster, 3 great-grandchildren Samantha M. Hayden, Evan J. Fair and Aubrey G. Fair, sister Betty Lee Harman Rill of Pounding Mill, VA, and also by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters Thelma Harman Spencer, Samuel Hall Harman, Carroll Seiss Harman and Viola Harman Spencer.

The Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 7, at 11:00 a.m. with Melvin James Fair, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Garden, Finksburg.
