MONTGOMERY COUNTY- Police are searching for a man suspected of placing skimming devices on area ATM machines.

In January of this year police say the man placed a skimming device on an ATM at the Capital One Bank located at 12228 Veirs Mill Road in Silver Spring. They also say the same man placed devices on an ATM at the M&T Bank on North Fredrick Avenue in Gaithersburg and an ATM at the Navy Federal Credit Union at 11528 Middlebrook Road in Germantown between the months of July and November.

The banks discovered they were victimized when account holders contacted the banks reporting authorized activity on their accounts.

Skimming devices can be placed over ATM card entry or swipe slots and steal bank information when a card is used at the ATM. Many banks have retrofitted ATMs with anti-skimming blockers that prevent devices from being attached to the machines.

Detectives have released surveillance photographs of the suspect and are asking for help identifying the suspect. Anyone with information about these skimming incidents or the suspect involved is asked to contact the Financial Crimes Section at 240-773-6330.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-8477. Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
