Former Springbrook standout Jamal Olasewere has signed a professional contract with a top-division team in Italy.
Olasewere, a 6-foot-7 forward, inked a deal with Vanoli Cremona of Italy Serie A.
During his tenure at LIU Brooklyn, Olasewere finished as the Northeast Conference school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,871 points and grabbed 963 rebounds. He’s also the only player in NEC history to eclipse the 1,800-point, 900-rebound plateaus in a career.
Olasewere also helped lead the Blackbirds to three consecutive league championships and three straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Olasewere averaged 18.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game and was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Year.
As a high school standout at Springbrook, Olasewere helped the Blue Devils win back-to-back state championships during his junior and senior campaign at the Silver Spring public school.
Olasewere, who once played AAU basketball for Mid-Atlantic Select’s James Lee, was also selected to represent the Nigerian National Team in this month’s FIBA African Basketball Championships in Ivory Coast.
Lee said Olasewere had a great college and high school career and has been a winner at every level.
“Great to see him become a professional player,” said Lee. “More great things to come.”
