Two children are dead and two others are in serious and critical condition following what Montgomery County police have classified as a homicide this morning.
Police say they believe all the children are less than 10 years old. One adult female, believed to be in her 20s, has been transported to a local hospital to be treated for superficial injuries. Police have taken another woman, believed to be in her 40s, into custody. Capt. Jim Daly, Montgomery County said the woman in custody is the suspect and police are not looking for anyone else.
According to Daly, Montgomery County Police responded to a call at 9:31 a.m. from a resident who spotted blood in a blue Toyota Corolla on the 19000 block of Cherry Bend Dr. in Germantown.
When police responded to the scene and entered the home, Daly said the suspect ran out the back door before officers eventually got a hold of her. Police found a knife and noticed apparent stab wounds to the children.
“We believe we have everybody involved and there is no danger to the community,” Daly said.
According to Daly, police responded to a call about an unattended child in the same blue car last night. When authorities arrived, they surveyed the scene and concluded there was no reason to make an arrest and child protective services should be called in the morning.
Daly said police are waiting for a warrant. The children’s condition is considered stable.
