Gaithersburg High School is searching for a new boys’ head basketball coach after Kevin Parrish resigned following a nine-year stint at the helm of the program.
The Ellicott City resident said his daily commute from Howard County was becoming too much of a grind for him to continue in his current position.
“I don’t want to get out of coaching but I just want to be closer to home,” he said.
Parrish, a Silver Spring native who graduated from B-CC in 1992, said he wanted to devote more time to his wife and daughter.
“The older she’s getting, the tougher it’s getting to be farther away from home,” he said. “It’s been more of a challenge.”
Parrish, a math teacher at Gaithersburg, became the school’s junior varsity head coach in 2001 and took over the varsity program three years later. He spent nearly a decade as the Trojans’ head coach. He also had a brief stint as the junior varsity head coach at McDonough High School in Charles County.
