ROCKVILLE — The Montgomery College Raptors men’s basketball team punched their ticket to the NJCAA DIII District VII Championship game by registering an 85-59 win Saturday over the nationally-ranked Sandhills Community College Flyers.
Sophomore guard Chris Johnson scored a game-high 16 points to lead four Raptors in double figures. Ramel Davidson finished with 14 points and Collin Turner added 13 points while Afanna Offor scored 10 points for Montgomery College.
Meanwhile, Sandhills was led by Parrish Stevons who finished with 11 points and Mason Harrell who scored 10 points.
Montgomery College, who led 36-29 at halftime, outscored Sandhills in the second half, 49-30.
The Raptors (24-7) will host the Prince George’s Community College Owls on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Owls (17-13) are led by talented sophomore guards Mykal Johnson and Gus Stone.
Johnson, an All-MD JUCO first-team selection, averages 17 points per game while Stone, a second-team performer, leads PGCC with an 18.3 points per game average.
“It should be a good game,” said Montgomery College head coach Keith Byrd. “It’s going to be a big game for us and the program.”
