ROCKVILLE  - Local residents got a little tea party treat Thursday, but it didn’t involve cream or sugar.

The outspoken tea partiers known for swarming the Capitol Hill lawn arrived in Rockville pouring out of cars and the metro station dressed in patriotic colors and armed with homemade signs. They gathered in Town Square for a raucous “tax day rally” including live music, free food and a lineup of speakers.

Basically we wanted to get people educated that the Montgomery County budget is out of control and the state budget is out of control, I mean actually the government is just out of control,” said organizer of the event, Craig Walenga. The county’s chapter of the tea party group boasts 500 to 600 members, currently.

Thursday’s event brought in a “laundry list” of speakers including radio host Jeffrey Kuhner of WTNT 570, Help Save Maryland Director Brad Botwin, Don Irvine of Accuracy in Media and Christopher Summers, founder and president of the Maryland Public Policy Institute. Though the group promoted former governor Bob Ehrlich (R) as one of the speakers earlier in the week, Thursday morning he opted out sending two representatives to speak on his behalf.

“We don’t support any particular person but we support people who back our philosophy,” Walenga said of Ehrlich.

“There was a miscommunication with his headquarters,” said David Drake programs and education chair for the county’s chapter of Americans for Prosperity. “We were told he would be a part of our event which was very exciting since we have been trying to get him, but we were disappointed about the mix-up.”

The tea partiers didn’t seem to mind, loudly clapping and agreeing to the speakers’ call to arms for “taking government back to the people” and “read the Constitution.” They hoisted signs that read “Cut Taxes Now!” and “Back Off Government!”

“The government is encroaching on our freedoms and stretching the constitution way beyond its original form,” Drake said. “Stretching isn’t even a strong enough word to describe what’s being done right now.”

“We hope we can be a focal point for people who are frustrated with the government to rally around,” Walenga said of hosting the event in Rockville. “You don’t have to be in downtown [DC] to be a part of this.”

The rally is sponsored by Americans for Prosperity of Montgomery County, the Campaign for Liberty, and Accuracy in the Media. “We want to bring our beliefs to the local level,” Walenga said.

Title: Anarcho capitalism is alive and well in the U.S., and it's called Conservative

"Anarcho-capitalism is an individualist anarchist political philosophy that advocates the elimination of the state and the elevation of the sovereign individual in a free market. In an anarcho-capitalist society, law enforcement, courts, and all other security services would be provided by voluntarily-funded competitors such as *PRIVATE DEFENSE AGENCIES rather than through taxation, (hmm, what does that make me think of?) and money would be privately and competitively provided in an open market. According to anarcho-capitalists, personal and economic activities would be regulated by the natural laws of the market and through private law rather than through politics. Furthermore, victimless crimes and crimes against the state would be rendered moot. (Wikipedia) Conservative anarcho capitalists consider taxation to be on the same level as burglary, fraud and theft...but here's the rub. No taxes would mean no governmental infrastructure. So who would pave the roads, make sure drinking water was clean and poisonous toxins and diseases were kept out of the food supply, provide a military, fire departments and local police, build bridges, hospitals, schools? That's where Halliburton and *Blackwater come in. Pay as you go is the mantra of the conservatives. If someone's robbing your house -- you can't call 911 anymore. Gotta hire a private police force. The only reason the Conservatives hate Obama (and they would have hated Hillary Clinton as well) is because he is rebuilding the infrastructure that the previous administration spent 8 years tearing down. The Katrina tragedy happened, not because of the storm, but because FEMA was an agency in name only - no one was sitting at the desks. People died because the governmental infrastructure did not exist. You may disagree with me. Certainly that is your right. I could be totally wrong. Or not.

Title: Don't want to pay taxes?

Here's a suggestion for all the Conservatives, oh, I mean, anarcho capitalists out there. Move onto the Residensea, and travel the world without having to pay taxes to the United States.

I can see why "anonymous" ised that name when writing. He is an idiot. Although I am not a member of the Tea Party, their ranks include an estimated 43% of Independants and Democrats. They are voices the opinion of many other who remain silent but welcome a dissenting view from the bias media reporting. We are a country that is in trouble. Obama is not the one to get us out of our woes. His policies will not work as history has shown us. What makes them different now? Because Obama says o. Wake up America.

Title:

O'Malley is obama inside out. Montgomery always supports this idiot and they deserve what they got with him and all the other left wing rads that permeate that county. It's time to wake up people and get O'malley, obama and leggett out of office and replace them with others more attuned to the wishes of the electorate.

Title: The Tyranny Response Team rules!

Though most Tea Party activists, both nationwide and locally, are conservative Republicans, there are many libertarians, independents, and even some Democrats, who have joined their ranks as well. The anti-big-government, anti-socialist movement here in America stared in the early nineties and we were just as disappointed with the Bush/Cheney administration as we were with Clinton/Gore all these years.

Title: Richest county broke?

The richest county in the MD broke? And this nitwit Legget is running unopposed for another term? You're kidding, right? We're out of money, and his brilliant idea is to come up with an energy tax, or raise the current one by 67? Is this guy for real? Why hasn't he resigned? I know this place is run entirely by Democrats, but seriously, is this the best they can do? 1Billion in the hole, and still no real spending cuts, no changes to county pensions, no salary or hiring freezes. Could we get a fiscal conservative to run for office around here, please?!

Title:

You're kidding right? If you had said the government was out of control 5 years ago, I would have agreed 100%. Under the Bush Administration, we very nearly lost our democratic way of life under the despotic rule of Cheney/Bush, and I put Cheney's name first intentionally. They used crooked lawyers to attempt to rewrite the Constitution. I am not an Obama supporter by any means, but I do love this nation and believe that the Tea Partiers are just unknowing pawns for the third party "Conservatives" who are really libertarian capitalists, creating a distraction while the third party continues to systematically take over the GOP. If you're a Republican politician in the GOP these days, they're coming after your seat. They dislike Republicans as much as they do Democrats.

I cant believe how naive some people are !!!

Title: Disgusted

If they truly want to improve our nation they'll answer Glen Beck, Rush, et al. who spew lies and incite hatred; all supported by my (ex) party. We pay less taxes then most developed countries's citizens, but it's an issue that always gets the rabble riled up.
