May he rest in peace

Sincere sympathy is offered to the family of Harry Holmes on his death following a lengthy illness. Harry and his wife, Ethel, have been residents of Clinton for many years, and some may remember Ethel as an industrial teacher at Surrattsville High School in the late ’50s. Ethel has also been a volunteer at Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

Kudos

Congratulations to Reverend Dorothea B. Stroman on her anniversary of 25 years in the Pastoral Ministry.

Fish Fry and Yard Sale

The Trustees of Clinton United Methodist Church are holding a combined Fish Fry and Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30. Fish dinners and sandwiches will be available for sale. Table rental is $10 per table.  Call the church office at 301-868-1281 for further information or to rent a table.

Interfaith alliances grow stronger

Highlights of the meeting included the adoption of a faith-based institutional commitment to ethical eating, planning for General Assembly 2012 in Phoenix, an interfaith rally against homophobia and transphobia, special collections for Mecklenburg Ministries, celebrations and workshops in honor of the UUA’s 50th anniversary and strengthening of interfaith alliances by welcoming speakers and guests including religious scholar and author Karen Armstrong, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf of the Cordoba House, and Rev. Kosho Nwano of Rissho Kosei-kai.
