Imagine this: the temperatures are hovering in the single digits and your elderly, ailing, parent is missing -- out in the snow and you don't know where to find them. That harrowing situation happened to one Prince George's county family, but this story has a happy ending. The Prince George's County Police Department Blog posted these details:

It was a desperate call for help. A daughter called the PGPD last night Jan 22. to help find her elderly mother who suffers from dementia.  Her 80-year-old mother wandered off and was likely outside in the freezing cold at night.

Finding her quickly was critical.

According to The Prince George's Police Department (PGPD) Blog, the PGPD Department Aviation Unit was alerted, a flight crew boarded Air 1 and headed in the direction of the 11200 block of Evans Trail in Beltsville, Md. The search crew knew time was of the essence. The pilot and tactical flight officer began a strategic search of the area using the helicopter's thermal imaging system. The flight crew noticed a hotspot in some nearby woods. They guided patrol officers on the ground to that location. They found the missing woman. She was not abe to get up on her own.
