Fourteen resident artists at the Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel have put together a group exhibition that highlights their diversity and talent.

The “Holiday Resident Artist Exhibition” is being displayed through Dec. 28 in the center’s Resident Artist Gallery.

The exhibit showcases one work by each resident artist. The artists express themselves with contemporary and traditional works in a variety of mediums including paintings, work on paper, print, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry and photography.

One of the works featured in the exhibit is a “Sterling Pendant” necklace by Karen Mesinger Miller. Its multi-layered fused dichroic blue stone and sterling silver chain glistens in the sunlight. In addition to being a resident artist, Miller teaches beginning and advanced classes in jewelry-making at the center’s studios.

In another work, Melissa Burley uses natural and recycled material to create an illuminated wall sculpture titled “Magnetic Fields.”

The main base of the frames in her sculpture, Burley said, is “built of wood and metal while the interior components consist of lighting, and natural and manmade materials. The combination of these materials and lighting creates shadows on the surrounding wall surfaces and floors where the sculpture is displayed.”

Jacqueline Lee, primarily a collage artist who works in diverse media, displays her work titled “Water Birds.” The work features a flock of pelicans, which are “social birds” found on many of the world’s coastlines. Lee’s signature style is experimenting with designs, combining fabrics and other materials including photographs to create figurative compositions.

Other artists included in the exhibition are Steven Williams, Sahomi Naka, L.K. Bernard, Judith Kornett, Roslyn Logsdon, David Brosch, Sushama Parikh, Patricia Phillips Bowden, Alonzo Davis, Carolyn Dutky Romano and Irene Sylvester.
