Most people who purchase hand-printed cards from Greenbelt artist Nora Simon don’t send their cards — they frame them instead.

Simon laughingly said that she does the same. She collects “hand-printed work by artists from around the world.”

“I could give the stuff away, but I prefer to frame and put it on my wall,” she said.

Simon has all-around excellence — not only did she graduate with honors from the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, she also is a photographer and print maker.

“I really love bright colors and pop art, and I’m interested in seeing how colors work together, especially when they overlap,” Simon said. “You know what it is when you look at it. You don’t have to decipher.”

Hand-printed popsicle and lemon Warhol-esque images on colorful papers line the walls of her studio at the Greenbelt Community Center, where she is one of nine artists in residency.

At the Greenbelt Artful Afternoon this month, Simon led a “printmaking workshop where participants learned to create unique and colorful patterns using fresh fruits and vegetables.”

Greenbelt’s Artful Afternoons are held the first Sunday in each month, and in addition to workshops with artists like Simon, often features a studio open house and sale with the center’s Artists in Residence, exhibits and artistic performances.

In December, Simon’s hand-printed cards, gift wrap and ornaments were exhibited at the annual Greenbelt Festival of Lights.
