A 15-year-old Suitland High School freshman was shot and killed Monday afternoon near Iverson Mall in Hillcrest Heights.
Just before 4:30 p.m., Prince George’s County police and fire departments responded to the 4000 block of 28th Avenue for a person down and unresponsive. Upon arrival, police and paramedics located Charles Michael Walker Jr., of Hillcrest Heights, suffering trauma to his upper body. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The teen was shot multiple times in his upper body, a source said.
The victim’s aunt, Laurice Masscy, said her nephew might have been targeted because he had just brought a new pair of shoes and was on his way to the bus stop. She also said that her nephew’s mother is a single parent with three other children.
“The investigators do have some leads that they are working but nothing that they want to share,” Prince George’s County Police Lt. William Alexander said.
This is the fifth shooting this school year of a student from the Prince George’s County school system.
Homicide detectives are working to identify a suspect or suspects and to establish a motive in this case, Alexander said.
