Man sentenced to 20 years for rape and assault of UM student

Derik E. Villeda-Morales, 24, of Laurel, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, with all but 15 years suspended for the second degree rape of a University of Maryland student in February 2009.

Villeda-Morales, who pled guilty on Feb. 19 to second-degree rape and second-degree assault, was also sentenced to 10 years suspend-all to be served consecutively with the sentence he received for second-degree rape.

In total, Villeda-Morales was sentenced to 30 years, suspend all but 15 years and five years supervised probation.
