City Council elections
Due to vacancy, there will be an additional two-year Ward 5 seat up for election on May 7.
The Board of Supervisors of Elections has determined that the winner of the popular vote in Ward 5 will be awarded with the four-year term and the runner up of the popular vote will receive the two-year term.
City residents who are registered to vote are eligible to vote in our city’s biennial election. Be sure you are registered at your current address.
I look forward to meeting the candidates at the various forums to discuss pertinent issues. Hopefully, one of our civic groups will sponsor a candidates’ night.
Spring has sprung
There will be a pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. before the Egg Hunt at noon. There will also be a special performance at 10:30 a.m. by Uncle Pete. Please RSVP for the pancake breakfast by calling the city at 301-985-5000. The cost is $5 per diner.
This Egg Hunt brings back so many memories of the egg hunts at Magruder Park in years gone by. Each Easter, the Kiwanis Club sponsored the egg hunts at Magruder Park. Prize money was given to the children depending on the size of the egg that they found. Each child would bring his/her basket to the event, and the little girls would wear their new spring dresses. The Easter Monday Egg Hunts at Magruder Park were known throughout most of Maryland. It is nice to see the tradition kept alive.
