A few years ago, the city government built sand dunes on the beach, which saved the city from the ravages of “Sandy.” It was great fun to visit the casinos, walk the boardwalk and have lunch at The Irish Pub.

Our city’s annual tree lighting ceremony will take place on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Magruder Park.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9-10:30 a.m., the kids will love having breakfast with Santa. Santa will also be available for lunch on the same day from 12 noon to 1:30 pm.
Both events will take place at our Municipal Building on Gallatin Street. Please call the city at 301-985-5021 to make reservations for the breakfast and the lunch. Photos will be available too.
Hyattsville history: 1962
For several years, it had been staged at Prince George’s Plaza as a county event.
Day-long activities in Magruder Park were climaxed by the fireworks display which attracted an estimated 50,000 people.
Perennial master of ceremonies, Dave Ginsburg, received a “Certificate of Award” from Mayor Lilly and Councilman Jay Katz, who chaired the event.
