A security guard is seriously injured after being shot last Thursday night at a grocery store in Laurel.

Two masked gunmen entered the Bottom Dollar Food Store and confronted the security guard. The shooting occurred just after 8 p.m. in the 12600 block of Laurel Bowie Road.

Police officials said the incident began when the security guard confronted the masked gunmen. There was a brief struggle, and during the confrontation, one of the suspects took the guard’s weapon. One of the suspects shot the security guard in the back, but police officials said it isn’t clear if it was the guard’s gun that was fired.

The 23-year-old security guard had only been working at the store for two weeks, said Cpl. Larry Johnson, spokesman for Prince George’s County Police Department.

The Police Department has released surveillance video of the shooting. It shows the two gunmen entering the store. Minutes later, the video shows the two suspects running out of the store appearing to chase the security guard, who was trying to run away.

The two suspects jumped into a light blue SUV and fled the scene, Johnson said.

Detectives were at the grocery store Friday night talking to employees and putting up flyers with the suspects’ pictures.

No money was stolen from the store during the incident.
