In light of the fact that this is a census year, the Sentinel recently conducted its own, informal census of a random sampling of Prince Georgians.

Those interviewed were each asked the same six questions about their community.  A few of the responses will be given for each question.

 1. Where do you live?

Jennifer Sweet: Greenbelt

Louis Parker: Lanham

Leonard Wallace: Greenbelt

2.  How long have you lived there?

Greg Fisanich: “at the end of this month, 46 years”

Cynthia Comproni: “28 years”

Leonard Wallace: “Well, I moved here in ’77.”

3.  What do you do for a living?

Comproni: General Manager of the Greenbelt Federal Credit Union

Wallace: President and Broker of Realty 1 Inc.

Louis Parker: Owner of Chef Lou’s Desserts

4.  Do you have any kids?

Preciosa Silva: “I have a daughter and I have a grandson.”

Sweet: “No, no children.”

Fisanich: “I have one child.”

5.  What is your favorite thing about your community?

Silva: “I like this area because I think the people are very conscious of the environment.  I love the trees.  They don’t cut a tree just because, you know, too much leaves, they are too much work.  I like this area exactly because of the green.  The Greenbelt it says everything, it is green.”

Wallace: “I think this community itself is very small town atmosphere in a big city, you know your neighbors.  You want to be here.  Mayberry [the town on the Andy Griffith show] is a great analogy.”

Parker: “The change.  I basically grew up in Prince George’s County and to see all the diversity. Just the development of the county overall.  Being a business owner here in the county I feel as though Prince George’s County is one of the last untapped… a diamond in the rough.”

6.  What is your least favorite thing?

Sweet: “Probably that everyone knows your business, when you don’t want them to.”

Comproni: “We have a problem with crime.  We had a robbery here.”

Fisanich: “Liberal democrats here, too close to Washington.  Town’s full of ‘em.  That means that my votes canceled out every year, 10 times over.”
