Prince George’s County residents looking to showcase their skills and talents to employers will get a chance this month as Rep. Donna Edwards hosts a job fair at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover.
The fair is scheduled for m 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 and will feature more than 60 employers from local and federal government. Private companies in the transportation, health and technology industries are also expected to be at the event as well as nonprofit organizations, according to Dan Weber, a spokesperson for Edwards.
This event will mark Edwards’ second job fair for District 4 residents since 2009. District 4 includes parts of central Prince George’s and parts of Anne Arundel County.
Residents attending the event are encouraged to bring a resume, have a 30-second script prepared, and dress appropriately. Opportunities will include ongoing training, advancement opportunities and skill enhancement services.
The job fair comes as the unemployment rate for Prince George’s County has averaged 6.9 percent for the first half of 2013, according to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Nationally, the rate has averaged more than 7.6 percent for the first half of the year.
