Homicide detectives from Prince George's County Police Department have made an arrest in the county's first homicide of the year that occurred New Years day in Chillum.
Marvin Vazquez Juarez is being held on a no bond status after Prince George’s County Police homicide detectives arrested him in connection with the murder of Catherine Alvarado.
On Jan. 1, at about 7:20 a.m., patrol officers with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Department and the Prince George's County Police Department were called to the Northwest Branch Trail in the 6100 block of Ager Road for a welfare check. When they arrived, they found 20-year-old Alvarado, suffering from stab wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
On Wednesday, Jan. 13, detective arrested 18-year-old Vazquez-Juarez and charged him with first and second degree murder along with other charges. During the course of the police investigation, detectives developed Vazquez-Juarez as the suspect. He and the victim had previously been in a relationship. He’s in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.
