Police arrest man involved in Capitol Heights gas station shooting

kevinflemmingCAPITOL HEIGHTS – A 27-year-old Capitol Heights man was arrested Tuesday by homicide detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department in relation to the March 8 shooting in Capitol Heights.

Detectives arrested Kevin Kavon Fleming, Jr., who lived in the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike, after he shot and killed 31-year-old Timothy Wimbush of W Street in Southeast Washington, D.C. in a parking lot of a liquor store on Marlboro Pike.

Around 11:30 p.m., a citizen flagged down an officer on patrol and informed them of a man lying in the parking lot of Oakcrest Liquor Store

When the officer arrived, they found Wimbush suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Detectives believe the fatal shooting stemmed from a dispute between Fleming and Wimbush.

Court records show that Fleming has been arrested several times in the county. In July 2011 he was charged with attempted murder, assault and possession of a hand gun along with other charges.

Fleming is charged with first and second-degree murder and related charges. He is in the custody of the department of corrections on a no-bond status.
