Shooting in Landover leaves one dead

LANDOVER – A 31-year-old District of Columbia man has become this year’s 24th homicide victim in the county after he was found shot to death.

Residents who live in the 7100 block of E. Lombard Street just off of Landover Road called 911 just before 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday to report of a man shot in the driveway of a house, police officials said.

When patrol units from the Prince George's County Police Department arrived on the scene they located Charles Bennett of Georgia Avenue in Northwest Washington D.C. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

“Our detectives from our homicide unit went door to door asking if anyone had seen or heard anything around of the time of the shooting,” said Jennifer Donelan, director of media relations for county police. “Our detectives are hard at work in identify a suspect(s) and motive in this case.”

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the homicide unit at 301-772-4925.
