RIVERDALE – A 3-week-old infant has become the county's 25th homicide victim of the year in Prince George's County, while the father was arrested and charged in connection with his daughter's death.
Homicide detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department arrested 27-year-old Nestor Hernandez of the 6800 block of Patterson Street in Riverdale and charged him with involuntary manslaughter, first and second-degree child abuse and first-degree assault, as well as other charges.
According to Mark Brady, spokesperson for the county fire department, shortly before 1 p.m. on April 8, county fire/EMS units were called to the 6800 block of Patterson Street for an unresponsive infant.
Police officials said the infant, Kendra Hernandez, was transported to a nearby hospital by medics, where she died the next day. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Hernandez had custody of his daughter at the time of the incident when she sustained the injuries that led to her death.
According to court records, Hernandez was arrested in October 2009 for violating a protection order. He was arrested again in August 2016 for assault.
Hernandez is in the custody of the department of corrections on a no-bond status.
