FORT WASHINGTON – An 82-year-old man is dead after his son stabbed him to death inside his Fort Washington home.
Shorty before 10 a.m. on Thursday, units from the Prince George's County Fire Department, along with patrol units from the county police department, responded to the 9000 block of Mill Street to check on the welfare of a man who family members and neighbors had not seen in a few days.
“The fire department had to force entry into the house and at that point we found James Proctor suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper body,” said Cpl. Tyler Hunter, a spokesperson for the county police department.
Hunter said county homicide detectives determined that it was likely not a random act due to the house being locked up and there being no signs of forced entry.
It didn't take long for detectives to come up with a suspect. Through their investigation they determined that the victim’s son, 64-year-old Roland Proctor, was living with his father and was in the house at the time of the incident.
Around 5:30 p.m., police were able to locate Roland on Palmer Road near the victim’s home. He was placed under arrest on an unrelated charge and during the interview detectives charged him with stabbing his father to death.
Roland Proctor is charged with first and second-degree murder. He is in the custody of the department of corrections on a no-bond status.
