Man lights townhouse on fire after family argument

pgfd1LANHAM--Prince George's County Police have taken a man into custody after he set his townhouse on fire displacing his mother and brother early Tuesday morning.

The Prince George's County Fire Department responded to a call at the 8600 block of Brae Brooke Drive just off Greenbelt Road for a reported house fire just after midnight.

"When units arrived on the scene they encountered heavy fire coming from a top floor window of a two-story townhouse," said Mark Brady, spokesperson for the fire department.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes, Brady said, and no injuries were reported.

Prior to firefighters arriving on the scene, the man apparently got into argument with his mother and brother and set a fire in his top floor bedroom, Brady said. He is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

Damage is estimated at $65,000.
