Riverdale Park shooting leaves one dead

rivparkshootingRIVERDALE PARK – Detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department's homicide unit, along with officials from the Riverdale Park Police Department, are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday night at an apartment complex in Riverdale Park.

Around 8:30 p.m., patrol units from Riverdale Park Police responded to the West Side Apartments in the 5500 block of 54th Avenue just off Riverdale Road for a reported shooting.

Responding units arrived on the scene and found an adult male in front of an apartment building suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was transported to a trauma center, but doctors were unable to save him.

Homicide detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department, along with Police Chief Hank Stawinski, responded to the incident. According to officials, the shooting was a result of a fight between several groups of people.

Detectives do not believe it was a random act and are working to identify a suspect(s) and motive in this case. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the homicide unit at 301-772-4925.
